228 Ifugao senior citizens receive social pensionby Dan B. Codamon
LAGAWE, Ifugao,Jan. 27(PIA) -- A total of 228 senior citizens of this province received the amount of P1,369,000.00 as social pension from the government for the year 2011.
Minda Romero of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) said of the 228 beneficiaries, 36 are from Asipulo, Lamut-31; Tinoc-30; Kiangan-27;Alfonso Lista-26; Aguinaldo-22;Lagawe-14;Banaue-13;Hingyon-12; Mayoyao-9 and Hungduan-8.
Romero said that the Social Pension Program provides P500 monthly financial assistance to indigent senior citizens who are 77 years old and above. This aims to help indigent senior citizens as part of its duty to protect the rights and alleviate the senior citizens from poverty.
She said that with the assistance from the local government units, the PSWDO will continue to reach out to more senior citizens this year .
Meanwhile, the presidents of barangay senior citizens in Kiangan are clamoring for the construction of barangay centers in their area for the conduct of their meetings and other activities.
They aired this during the meeting and oath taking ceremony of new set of officers of the Kiangan Federation of Senior Citizens Association (KFSCA) on January 14 at the Senior Citizens Center here attended by 13 barangay presidents.
Napoleon Baguilat, the new KFSCA president, said they will refer the concern to the Mayor and the Sangguniang Bayan for possible assistance.
The other officers are: Vice President-David Gumbongan; Press Relation Officer-Joaquin Bullong Sr.; Business Manager-Pablo Maguiwe; Treasurer-Veronica Monayao and Secretary-Adoracion Guinid.(JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
