PESO- Iloilo cites employment gainsILOILO CITY, Jan. 27 (PIA6) -- The Public Employment Service Office of Iloilo, cited as Best Regional PESO Awardee for 2011, has gained employment for over 700 job seekers in the jobs fairs it conducted last year.
Based on its accomplishment report, PESO-Iloilo Manager Francisco Heler, Jr., said the two jobs fairs they had in April and December 2011, generated about 5,740 job vacancies, of which 2,158 were local and 3,582 were overseas, from 93 agencies that participated.
Heler said that out of 1,643 applicants who registered, 754 had found job placements.
He added that to fast-track search for jobs and manpower, his office has installed Phil-Job-net Program in the municipalities of Balasan, Mina, Carles, new Lucena and Badiangan, through www.philjobnet.dole.gov.ph.
PESO-Iloilo has also initiated the implementation of Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) with the 20 scholars of the provincial government.
This scheme, Heler said, provides jobs to poor but deserving students during Christmas and summer vacations so that they can pursue their studies.
In this, the mode of salary payment is 60-40, where the 60 percent is the share of the province paid in the form of tuition and fees and allowances of students, while the 40 percent is paid by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in cash.
Meanwhile, last January 20, the DOLE and the provincial government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the implementation of Skills Registry System or SRS.
Heler said the SRS serves as repository of computerized information on available manpower supply, indicating the skills and qualifications that can readily be accessed by clients.
PESO-Iloilo, according to Heler, will be initiating more job opportunities for Ilonggos, especially the poor but qualified. (JCM/ESS/PIA-Iloilo)
