Marikina to host third leg of Philippine Water RunsMARIKINA CITY, January 28 (PIA) -- The city government of Marikina will host the third leg of the Philippine Water Runs on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 6 a.m.
The event dubbed ‘Water is Life’ is a program of the Philippine Water Runs that aims to help Filipinos to have clean and safe drinking water as part of the United Nations Millennium Development Goal. Expressing his support, Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman is elated to host the event.
“We are giving our full support to this project to provide safe and clean drinking water to Filipinos. We are happy that our city will be a part of this kind of project. This also brings hope for bodies of water like the Marikina River,” said De Guzman.
The race will start at SM Marikina then along the banks of Marikina River. The advocacy run was first held in Vigan and Naga and will be held soon in Quezon City, Laguna Lake, Cebu and Davao.
Entry forms are available in SM Marikina and at the Marikina Sports Park. Registration fee is P350 for the 3K run and P500 for the 5K and 10K run. Registrants will receive a collectible race singlet and a race bib.
Meanwhile, discounts will be given to interested students of Marikina. Registration fee is at P20 and will also be given a race bib. Students must bring their identification cards upon registration.
Winners from each category will have a chance to take home cash prizes and gift checks. Likewise, the city government will also give out some Life Straws, or a filtration device. The straws remove waterborne bacteria, viruses, and parasites which makes the water clean and safe to drink. It is currently being used in Pakistan, Haiti, and Thailand. (Marikina-PIO/RJB/JEG-PIA-NCR)
