RafananSAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan. 27 (PIA) – The Regional Development Council (RDC1) thru the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) committee conducted recently the first regionwide 2012 ICT Congress in Ilocos region held at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol here. Around 350 participants comprising of ICT students, local government units and regional line agencies attended the congress. Acting RDC-1 Chair and National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Director Juan B. Ngalob said the congress aims to build regional awareness among the public and private sector and the civil society in the innovative and effective use of ICT in varied areas to improve productivity, challenge the administrators of higher education institutions offering ICT courses to allow their students to develop computers applications that can be used by the industry partners, and challenge the government sector to utilize ICT in the performance of their functions and in the delivery of products and services with the ultimate goal of delivering the highest satisfaction to the general public. Among the office automation projects presented during the congress were the 22 processes of City of Alaminos, Individual Work Permit Information System of the City of San Fernando, Human Resource Management Information Systems–Provinces of La Union and Pangasinan, Student Registration and Information System of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-Mid La Union Campus, and the Online Regional Project Monitoring and Evaluation System of NEDA Region 1. The resource persons from various institutions shared their experiences in automating their office processing, stressing the importance of having the Standard Operating Procedure and the Terms of Reference before venturing into office automation. Engr. Ana Belen O. Noble, co-chairperson of the ICT committee and Dean of Computer Studies and Engineering of Lorma Colleges coordinated the activities of the congress. The members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) include Racquel T. Atawe of NEDA, Merly Membrere of the Department of Trade and Industry, Ranier Repollo of Civil Service Commission, Reyen Sabate of the Commission on Higher Education, Cresencia Boac of the Technical Skills and Development Authority and Jan Ben Leaño of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
