Kaelco proposes 24-hout power service

by Peter A. Balocnit

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 29 (PIA) -- To make power supply in the town of Lubuagan round-the-clock, the Kalinga-Apayao Electric Cooperative (KAELCO) proposes the ugrading of the Cagaluan in Pasil to Lubuagan main grid lines.

Kaelco General Manager Corazon Tomas urged for the convergence of different local government units (LGUs), agencies particularly from the energy sector in order to opt for a 24-hour power supply. She said the upgrading needs P12.5 million which Kaelco could not afford to provide.

“The plan is easier to achieve if all concerned give their contribution or counterpart for the project,” Tomas said.

“I am encouraging the convergence of the LGUs from the provincial down to the barangay and the office of the Congressman to join forces and find a solution of providing a 24-hour electricity not only for Lubuagan but Pasil and Balbalan,” Tomas said in her message during the recent power switch-on at sitio Dugnac, Antonio Canao in Lubuagan.

At least 85 households in Dugnac were connected to electricity sourced out from the generator set used by the other barangays of Lubuagan.

Lubuagan Mayor Johny Dickpus said he will present the plan so that the other mayors will know more about the upgrading. “I will bring this out during the meeting of the Mayors League to solicit help so that together we can carry out the project,” he said.

On the other hand, Congressman Manuel Agyao advanced his commitment to give counterpart for the upgrading of the Cagaluan-Lubuagan main grid line. In his message read by his daughter, Dr. Carolyne, during the Dugnac power switch-on, Agyao said, “You are sure of my counterpart since full and sufficient electrification of all barangays in my district is also my priority.”

Lubuagan is electrified by a generator set provided by Kaelco and is supplying electricity for three hours at night. (JDP/PAB/PIA-CAR)
