SEAYLP-Philippines to hold leadership training

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Jan. 29 (PIA6) -- The Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program Philippines is set to hold leadership trainings to high school students outside of Bacolod City.

The SEAYLP-Philippines Batch 2010 will conduct the Aguila Youth Camp (AYC).

The AYC is designed to foster student leadership and volunteerism for high school students from both private and public schools with the hope of opening opportunities for exemplary students in far-flung schools.

This camp is the answer to the challenge on six Filipino students and one Filipino teacher after participating in the first ever Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) for student leaders in the Southeast Asia at the Northern Illinois University in Illinois, USA in April of 2010.

Team Aguila is composed of the first SEAYLP delegates who were all from Bacolod City Alexandra Soledad and Edcel Tejare of the University of St. La Salle, Borj Coscolluela of the De La Salle University, John Floyd Abrico of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Nobelle Escalona of the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod with their Adult Team Leader Dr. Bien Nillos.

Six schools with two students and a teacher will be selected to participate in the four-day intensive youth camp that will involve workshops, team building exercises, leadership development, community action planning, environmental stewardship, and conflict resolution which will be conducted on April 2012 at the University of St. La Salle.

After the camp, the participants are expected to implement a school-based project that will be monitored by SEAYLP-Philippines for a year and a financial grant will be awarded to the best and most successful implementer of the project.

Interested applicants may visit the website www.teamaguilaseaylp.blogspot.com or visit the Department of Education-Negros Occidental Office for the application forms and program qualifications and requirements.

Application forms may be sent through mail addressed to Bien Nillos, MD c/o College of Medicine, University of St. La Salle, La Salle Avenue, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental 6100 or maybe hand carried to the same address or to the DepEd Division of Negros Occidental Office not later than 3PM on or before February 10, 2012.

Final selection of participants is set on February 11 to 17, 2012 and will be presented to the US Ambassador to the Philippines on February 18.
