Ordinance requiring motorcycle drivers, backriders to wear helmets passedby Thelma C. Bicarme
AGLIPAY, Quirino, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- The Sangguniang Bayan here has passed an ordinance requiring drivers and riders of single motorcycles passing along the barangay roads, municipal streets and national highway within the territorial jurisdiction of this municipality to wear helmets.
Under Municipal Ordinance no. 06 authored by Sangguniang Bayan members Giovanni M. Eustaquio and Warlita G. Alberto, the following are prohibited acts: non-wearing of crash helmets by drivers while driving single motorcycles; wearing of helmets with unlocked straps and allowing back riders/s to ride without wearing crash helmets.
Violators of the said ordinance will be fined P300 for first offense, P500 for second offense and P1,000 as well as confiscation of drivers license for third offense.
Administrative fines are collected by the Municipal Treasurer’s Office (MTO) or any authorized agents through the Traffic Citation Ticket to be issued to the violators.
The ordinance further stated that if the violators fail to appear or report before the MTO within a period of 30 days from the date of issuance of the Traffic Citation Ticket, criminal complaints will be filed against them. (TCB/PIA 2)
