BFAR distributes fingerlings to dengue-prone barangaysTUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) region 2 will distribute fingerlings to areas identified as dengue-prone, according to Severina Bueno, chief-extension division.
Bueno said this is one of the agency's interventions to address the reported increase of dengue cases last year.
Bueno said that based on studies, 'tilapia' eats larvae of mosquitoes so they concluded that Tilapia dispersal would help eradicate multiplication of dengue carrying mosquitoes.
Bueno also said that based on their observations and the report of the recipients, a downtrend of dengue cases were noted in some of the previously enlisted dengue hotspots in the city.
To expand the project in the region, Bueno said they will introduce the project to other local chief executives to help eradicate dengue problem.
The project also aims to provide food or livelihood to the people. (TCB/OTB/PIA-2)
