PIA Press Release Monday, January 30, 2012 Bacolod City re-launches the green movementBACOLOD CITY, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- After making it to the Hall of Fame as the cleanest and greenest city campaign in the past, Bacolod City is re-launching the green movement with the support of its local government. Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia together with Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson and the majority of the Sangguniang Panlungsod has relaunched the Clean and Green movement. The movement will be administered by the Task Force Clean and Green, a body composed of public officials and employees, civic club officials, church leaders and people’s organizations officers. The Task Force is to inform Bacoleños about the Clean and Green Movement and to secure their all-out support and cooperation. Leonardia believes that the taking care of the environment is a shared responsibility. “Every Bacoleño should be engaged into the noble task, inasmuch as a clean and green Bacolod will attract more tourists, visitors and investors in the city,” Leonardia said. While Leonardia and Sayson are the Honorary Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of the the Task Force, the prime movers are the Overall Chairperson is Myrna Servando of the Lions Club, and the three Overall Vice Chairpersons, Councilors Em Ang, Sonya Verdeflor and Mona Dia Jardin. Leonardia already sent letters to barangay officials, school officials, civic club officers and big corporate company officers to solicit their support in the movement. As a start, the Task Force headed by Servando had planned that in the first week of February and several Saturdays thereafter, volunteers coming from the ranks of city/barangay officials and employees will troop to the main thoroughfares of the city to clean them from garbage, litters, graffiti and other eye sores.
