Starter kits provided to 100 SMAW graduates

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Jan. 30 (PIA6) -- Sandro is presently working in Manila to help his parents in Capiz meet their day-to-day expenses.

He ventured for work away from home after he finished the Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAC) course as a student of the Mobile Technology School (MTS) of Capiz State University (CapSU) Roxas City main campus.

SMAW or stick welding is an arc welding process in which coalescence of metals is produced by heat from an electric arc that is maintained between the tip of a flux covered electrode and the surface of the base metal in the joint being welded.

But now, his mother, Rosalinda, wants him to come back after a welding starter kits for him and 99 other SMAW graduates were distributed as an early Christmas gift to the recipients by CapSU, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Rosalinda received the livelihood assistance for her son.

I will ask my son to go back to Roxas City to start his own business, she stressed, as she thanked the government for the initiative designed to help alleviate poverty in the communities.

The plan solidifies the intention of the project proponents who wanted the beneficiaries to be self-reliant and to consider local employment rather than overseas jobs.

The welding starter kit is capable of beginning a livelihood activity.

Mother Rosalinda was upbeat about the opportunity to improve the quality of their life that awaits her son and their family because of the assistance provided by the government.

Most important of all, she said, "my son will soon be working in the comfort of being with us around daily." (AL/PIA-6)
