‘A Day of Prayer’ for Bulacan’s future

by Jose Mari Garcia

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan, Jan. 31 (PIA) – Looking forward to a blessed year, the Bulakeño community of the faithful gathered for what former United States President George W. Bush once tapped for motivation, “Prayer has comforted us in sorrow and will help strengthen us for the journey ahead.”

Hundreds of provincial government employees and religious groups assembled yesterday in “A Day of Prayer” themed as “Sama-samang Panalangin para sa Lalawigan ng Bulacan” for the province’s welfare at the mini-forest in the capitol compound here.

Governor Wilhelmino Alvarado said prayer is the answer to the disasters and quandaries experienced by Bulakeños as he encouraged them to spend a minute of prayer every day at 12 noon.

“The calamities and criminalities that our province has experienced could be resolved with prayers. A prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective,” Alvarado said in Filipino.

“Through a minute of prayer every day, gradual but sustained, we could start in small ways until we develop it. A heartfelt prayer could do anything,” he added.

According to Benny Abante, senior pastor of the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church and Ministries, government officials should resort into heeding “God’s words” instead of prioritizing personal gains.

“A righteous community calls to God, listening to His words. It is very pleasant to see that our leaders hold the Bible instead of money. If this happens, corruption will be eradicated,” said Abante.

He added that more than 30 percent of the government revenues go to corruption, upholding why a righteous nation must refrain from it.

Representatives from the various religious groups sang the theme song of Bulacan Day of Prayer entitled “Kay Ganda ng Bayan Ko”and “Lord, Heal our Land.” (CLJD/JMG-PIA 3)
