080219-R7-LITTLEHANDS

It's the thought that counts, says Little hands of Asia founder Theresa 'Tess' Paculba Ruch of its after-Christmas presentation to the schoolchildren and teachers of Pisong A and Pisong B elementary schools in the province of Siquijor, last January 16, 2008. The Little Hands of Asia is named after Tess' granddaughter Asia Ruch Pangelinan. 'I was thinking about a name to give our non profit organization as my grandbaby walked up to me, raising her arms up and said 'Hold me Lola..', hence the name Little Hands of Asia came to my mind,' recounts Tess. With her daughters Lisa Aquino, Roberta Ruch and Angelita Luz Ruch as her co-founders (all living in USA), Tess made home cookies and candies to sell during Christmas to raise funds for the educational assistance program they have in mind for the school children of Siquijor. In April last year, the organization with the help of the Sierra Lions Club gave the much needed school supplies, books and other gifts to the Cantabon Elementary School. The Presentation made them realize the need for an ongoing educational assistance program for the school children. "We raised funds once again with several days of hardwork for school supplies and a one-year scholarship for a deserving high school graduate. 'We hope people will donate to our mission and show support to the programs,' she said. (PIA 7)
