MacArthur Marker Opened: City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula, Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy of the National Historical Institute, and former President Fidel V. Ramos sign the historical marker and certificate of transfer from NHI, confirming the historical significance of the Macabalan Wharf in the history of World War II during today's (March 13) opening of the MacArthur Marker at the historic harbor in Cagayan de Oro City. It marks the spot where General Douglas MacArthur, together with his family and military entourage disembarked at 7:00 a.m. on March 13, 1942 from a patrol torpedo boat after successfully evading a Japanese blockade, following the fall of Bataan and Corregidor. They then proceeded to the Del Monte Clubhouse for his departure to Australia on a B-17 Flying Fortress where he made the famous declaration, "Upon orders of the President of the United States, I came through the Japanese blockade, and I shall return."
