 Naval Detachment Isabela is Inaugurated: Isabela City, Basilan - In celebration of its 33rd Activation Day, the First Marine Brigade stationed in Basilan recently (July 1, 2008) spearheaded the inauguration of the proposed Naval Detachment Isabela in Barangay Tabuk, Isabela with Naval Forces Western Mindanao Commander, Rear Admiral Emilio C Marayag Jr AFP, (left) and Isabela City Mayor, Hon Cherrylyn Santos-Akbar (second from left) leading the marker unveiling ceremony. Initial naval base development efforts were pioneered by Marine Battalion Landing Team-1 headquartered in Isabela which is expected to speed up with the eventual approval of the proposed project. Once approved, this naval detachment will serve as a viable staging point which will eventually increase the effectiveness of Fleet - Marine Team operations in Basilan.
