TWO MARICULTURE ZONES WERE LAUNCHED IN THE PROVINCE OF SORSOGON TO GENERATE JOBS AND INCREASE THE INCOME OF THE FISHERFOLK. These are the 500-hectare Bacon Mariculture Zone Management and Development Project located in Sugot Bay of Bacon District, Sorsogon City near Banao Port in Barangay Salvacion and the 300-hectare Magallanes Mariculture Zone located in Bagatao and Tinacos Islands of Magallanes near Magallanes Port in Barangay Bacolod. These Mariculture Zone Projects are being implemented by the joint efforts of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Local Government Units of Sorsogon City and Magallanes. Present to grace the launching activities last December 12, 2008 were BFAR National Director Malcolm Sarmiento Jr., Congressman Salvador Escudero III, Governor Sally Lee, Regional Director Dennis del Socorro, DA-Regional Executive Director Jose Dayao, Regional Agriculture Statistics Officer Cesar Calleja, and Municipal Officials of Sorsogon City and Magallanes headed by Mayor Leovic Dioneda and Mayor Abelardo Arambulo.
