CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija, Mar. 5 (PIA) -- Department of Health National Epidemiology Center Director Dr. Eric Tayag (right) and UNICEF Country Representative to the Philippines Vanessa Tobin discusses to media that currently about one-third of all new HIV infections in the country occur in the 15-24 years age group and that the Philippines is now one of the seven countries with increasing HIV cases along with Armenia, Bangladesh, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan during the 2011 State of the World’s Children Report. Ms. Tobin, on the other hand, stressed that investing in adolescents can break the cycles of poverty and reduce risk of HIV through accurate information to protect them from teen pregnancy, early marriage, risky social and sexual behaviors and sexually-transmitted infections.
