ANGARA URGES ENFORCEMENT OF FINANCIAL REFORMS: Speaking at the 30th National Credit Congress on Friday, Senator Edgardo J. Angara stressed that laws enacted to strengthen the country's banking and financial system must be implemented immediately, especially in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. Over the last three years, Angara led the passage of key financial reform measures in the Senate: the Credit Information System Act, Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Act, Pre-Need Code of the Philippines, Personal Equity and Retirement Account Act (PERA), and Financial Rehabilitation and Insolvency Act. However, the REIT, PERA and Credit Information System have yet to be enforced. He was the keynote speaker at the congress of credit professionals organized by the Credit Management Association of the Philippines (CMAP). (OSEJA) |
