Pinoys sovereign on Cha-cha - Bunye

MANILA (1 August) -- "The decision on Charter change lies in the hands of the sovereign Filipino people," Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye quipped.

This, amidst report of Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita that local officials would be forcing senators to agree on amending the 1987 Constitution or face risk of isolating itself from the Filipino people.

Bunye, who is also the Presidential Spokesman, said the issue on Constitutional change should not be seen as a battle of political institutions, but a reasonable debate towards a common path.

He pointed out that the Filipino people have been waiting for so long and it is high time now to heed the growing clamor for Charter change and mounting calls to empower the countryside.

Meantime, the Palace official called on the nation to give this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity a chance for the sake of political and economic survival. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
