Completion of Quezon bridge elates villagers

QUEZON, Nueva Vizcaya (8 August) -- Daniel Bartong, 24 a citrus farmer of barangay Malabing in Kasibu town along with other farmers is in jubilation after the completion of rehabilitation works for the Maddiangat bridge here.

The Maddiangat bridge which serves as a link of farmers here and in Kasibu town in transporting their products to the market collapsed in December last year during the height of super typhoon "Yoyong"

"Its completion reduced our transportation expenses for our products," Bartong said.

During the repair, Bartong said by boat, farmers have to pay P10.00 as additional fare per load of their products to cross the river.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in her visit here in December vowed to prioritize its rehabilitation under the President's Bridge Program.

The P4.5 million rehabilitation of the Maddiangat bridge by the public works and highways department was completed in April this year.

Mayor, Segundo Supnet said the completion of Maddiangat bridge is a great help of farmers who comprise 80 percent, transportation sector who represents 20 percent and students who contribute 20 percent of the total population of the town. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
