Feature: Housing units for differently-abled persons

Davao City (21 September) -- Some members of the Association of Differently Abled Persons or better known as persons with disabilities (PWDs) are now enjoying their own homes. As Davao City 2nd Representative Vincent Garcia, helped to make it possible for ADAP members to acquire a one hectare parcel of land at Indangan, Buhangin district, Davao City.
ADAP housing committee coordinator Leonardo Guarte and ADAP Multi-purpose cooperative chair Engr. Darlito Palermo said the shelters homes were completed with a coordinated effort of the Davao City Host, Pag-asa Lions Club, Lions Clubs International for the matching grant of US$48,019.00. The Habitat for Humanity Foundation helped built forty (40) units house construction.
While the City Government of Davao provided for the light, water and road development. Other national and local government agencies also provided support like the National Housing Authority particularly in its land tenurial assistance program. Also supporting the project were The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI; City Social Services and Development Office; the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC); and other volunteers.
This coming September 24 (Sunday) marks the 1st anniversary celebration of the Shelter Homes program of ADAP where its members have prepared a simple but fitting program by way of saying “thank you” to all of their supporters. The activity is slated right at the shelter homes of ADAP members at Indangan, Buhangin.
Engr. Palermo said they have invited their “idol” Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte to be with them during their 1st foundation anniversary together with Congressman Vincent Garcia; Renfredo Rosal, president of HABITAT for Humanity foundation; Naty Cua, past president of Davao City Host Lions; Mila Segovia of DSWD XI; and other officials of Davao City.
Focusing its vision on a theme: “ADAP, as partners in nation building and development” its members have committed to participate and be involved in the city’s effort to enhance people’s resources in building a prestigious, livable and peaceful city. (PIA-XI) [top]
