by ES Subong

Duenas, Iloilo (26 September) -- As the world celebrates World Tourism Day today, drums start pounding as the town of Duenas begins its four-day Anihan Festival and Patronal Fiesta celebration.

The first day of the festival today begins with a grand parade and street dancing around the major streets of Duenas, to be followed by an opening program, where Iloilo Fourth District Congressman Ferjenel Biron is expected to deliver a keynote message. Together with the provincial and local officials led by Governor Niel Tupas.

Mayor Robert martin U. Pama said that although there is no tribes competition this year, the tribes will still be performing to the rhythm and beat of the drums depicting the practices, customs and traditions of the Duenasanon before and during harvest season.

The tribes, which increased from five to seven, are composed of Tribu Manugpanggas (LGU), Tribu Arupiray (DCES, DepEd), Tribu Hayahay (SJA), Tribu Panurongsurong (Malusgod NHS), Tribu Manaragani (DGCHS), Tribu Tumpi (Cabudian NHS), Tribu Manuglinas (Maribuyong NHS).

The opening day will also feature an Agro-Industrial Fair, Food Fest and Garden Show, participated in by 47 barangays, showcasing different varieties of ornamental plants, native foods, delicacies and thriving agricultural crops.

This year's festival theme is "Pagbinuligay kag Paghiliusa Para sa Matawhay kag Mauswagon nga Banwa." (PIA 6) [top]
