Capiz to 'wow' Western Visayas in reg'l tourism assembly

ROXAS CITY (29 September) -- Capiz is setting down to work out preparations to come up with a distinctly Capiceņo showcase at the regional version of "WOW Philippines - Best of the Regions" during the regional tourism assembly on October 23-29 in Iloilo City.

Provincial Tourism Officer Alfonso "Bo" Bediones, Jr. said Capiz will put up a performance at the Parade of Festivals on Oct. 27 together with other provinces of the region featuring the Sinaot Festival presentation of Pres. Roxas town of Mayor Raymund S. Locsin.

Bediones said the big day for Capiceņos will come on Oct. 28 when the province will have the whole day for itself for a "Capiz Day" celebration just as what was had at the WOW Philippines that was staged in Intramuros, Manila twice.

Prior to the activities, a forum regarding the tourism industry of the region will be held on Oct. 25. The forum will be participated in by stakeholders in the tourism industry and is designed to help them explore, identify, resolve priorities, discuss and establish linkages for the development of tourism in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occ.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) headed by Regional Director Edwin Trompeta is spearheading the event with the support of the Regional Development Council chaired by Gov. Sally Z. Perez and Iloilo City mayor Jerry P. Treņas who is also the chairperson of the host committee.

The regional event will highlight and promote the tourism attractions of the region as well as showcase its investment potentials.

The government continues to adopt initiatives to push economic development on all fronts to put the Philippines into First World status in 20 years. Pres. Arroyo has created super regions to focus and sustain economic activities with Western Visayas of the Central Philippines Super Region as tourism belt. (PIA-JSC) [top]
