"Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke" benefits Pangasinan farmers
PANGASINAN (3 April) -- The National Food Authority (NFA), Western Pangasinan branch have distributed 480,291 bags of rice or 88 percent of the target 545,000 bags in this part of the province. Majority of the releases (86 percent) were issued thru the Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke (BGP) and other rice stores in the pubic markets, and 3.9 percent distributed thru the priority development assistance fund (PDAF) of legislators.
The branch has served 25 farmers' organizations comprising 1,713 farmer-cooperators last year thru such programs as the farmers option-to-buy- back program (FOBB), and the farmers incentive rice purchase (FAIR) program. The total number of bags withdrawn by the cooperatives reached 13,202 bags amounting to P10,899,900.
Assistant Manager Cecilia Concubierta said her western Pangasinan branch continues to monitor Bigasan outlets to prevent possible violations like diversion and overpricing. NFA rice is sold in the outlets at P18 per kilogram. (PIA) [top]
