Arroyo's 60th birthday wish: 'Invest in future, youth'
Manila (4 April) -- About to officially join the ranks of senior citizens when she turned 60 on Maundy Thursday, April 5, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said her birthday wish was for unity, prosperity and to "invest in the future and the young people."
"As an upcoming senior citizen, what I said yesterday that we have to invest in the future and the young people; it's really time to turn over the country to them or to prepare the country for them," she said.
This, she said, is what made the acronym -- which she described as a "memory aid" -- of the administration's senatorial slate, "MaS PARA SA KiDZ Mo," appropriate.
"We have to look for how to make life better for them, how to bring our country to First World [status] by the time that they [the youth] are the ones running it," she added.
Arroyo will be celebrating her birthday in Baguio City where she and her Cabinet will be undergoing their annual retreat. On Good Friday, she will make a round of churches there for the traditional Holy Week Visita Iglesia.
She is expected to return to Manila on Monday. (PIA) [top]
