Team unity condemns killing of Indon priest
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (10 April) -- Members of Team Unity here on Tuesday have condemned the killing of Indonesian priest in Lubuagan, Kalinga, saying the incident is an isolated case from the allegations of increasing cases of extrajudicial killings in the country.
“We condemn the killers of Fr. Madhu. This is not another case of unsolved killings. This is a criminal case and should be treated as an isolated case, “ senatorial bet Prospero Pichay told reporters at the Saber Inn and Restaurant here.
Pichay, along with other members of Team Unity were in the province for their campaign sortie, backed by local government unit officials and supporters.
Fr. Francis Madhu, 31, an Indonesian national, was shot by Nestor Wailan alias Sukman while, the priest, along with some Church workers were on their way to conduct mass in a remote village of sitio Dugnat, Barangay Mabungot, Lubuagan, Kalinga town Sunday. Madhu had been serving the community for the last 10 years.
Pichay said the number of political killings in the country is not increasing, adding that the peace and order situation in the country is not deteriorating.
Senatorial candidate Mike Defensor also called on concerned agencies to exert effort in solving cases of extrajudicial killings in the country and bring them to justice. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
