PIA Press Release

Team Unity claims victory over LGU support

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (10 April) -- Senatorial candidates of Team Unity on Tuesday downplayed the result of the latest survey, showing candidates of the Genuine Opposition on the lead of mustering votes come May 2007 elections.

Senatorial bet Prospero Pichay dismissed the credibility of the survey since it did not come from respondents in the countryside.

“That is not a guarantee for victory because basically, the GO do not have local support in the municipalities and they do not have local candidates in the 70 percent of the total municipalities in the country,” Pichay told reporters here.

Senatorial candidate Mike Defensor also said the lower machinery of the Team Unity, having the overwhelming support of local candidates will be the trigger point in ensuring the victory of the TU.

“It all depends on the mobilization in the local level through the help and support of governors, mayors and barangay captains,” he said.

Defensor also said that TU aims to draw 50 percent of the 50 percent assumed turn out of the total voters in the country through aggressive mobilization in the local level.

He boasted that TU has now the 90 percent support of the local government units to tell their platforms to the people for economic development of the country while the GO lacks an alternative and workable economic agenda.

“A week before the elections, let us see. With our strong local machinery, I will assure you that we will get the votes for our victory,” Defensor said. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
