DOST opens search for Gawad Lider

Legazpi City (11 April) -- Outstanding individuals or groups with sustained exemplary leadership in the field of Science Education and have developed and introduced science and technology-based innovations or inventions can vie for the Gawad LIDER (Leadership and Innovations for Development and Reforms in Science Education).

Gawad LIDER has two categories:

1) Exemplary Leadership Award in two sub-categories: 1) Individual who has implemented a program or project for at least five years; and 2) Institution/Organization that has demonstrated sustained leadership through a project with significant impact on education. One winner will be declared for each sub-category.

2) Innovation Award (Individual or Institution) for the introduction of science and technology-based innovation that benefits education. An innovation includes the enhancement of existing gadgets, equipment, devices or product or procedure that has resulted in higher efficiency, greater effectiveness, and increased productivity. There will be three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) for this category.

Winners in the Exemplary Leadership Award will receive P150,000 each and a medal. For the Innovation Award, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placers will receive P150,000, P100,000 and P75,000 and medals (gold, silver and bronze) respectively.

Nominees must submit the duly accomplished application and nomination forms as endorsed by head of institution/organization, community leader or individuals.

At the national selection stage, the following are required: letter of qualification; original copies of at least two of the following: clippings of news/articles; internet downloads, pictures, videos, testimonials/written testimonies of 2-3 heads of relevant institution/peer/organization.

Nomination forms are available at SEI-DOST and regional offices of DOST, DepEd and CHED. Required documents must be submitted to said offices on or before July 31, 2007.
