Shariff Kabunsuan candidates sign peace covenant

Koronadal, South Cotabato (13 April) -- Police Chief Superintendent Joel Goltiao, regional director of the PNP-ARMM announced over the radio today that the candidates in the Province of Shariff Kabunsuan will sign a Peace Covenant in his office at Camp S.K. Pendatn, Parang, Shariff Kabunsuan.

This is to help ensure peace and order during the coming May elections, Goltiao said.

The same peace covenant will be signed by candidates in the other ARMM provinces such as Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi.

Meanwhile, the PNP has warned that Communist guerillas may use the May 14 elections to raise funds through extortions, put sympathetic candidates into office and rally their forces.

The New People’s Army (NPA) may use all their resources to “threaten the integrity of the elections,” the police said in a briefing to foreign diplomats. (wrb/PIA 12) [top]
