Cagayan de Oro City (13 April) -- Oro Chamber, the country’s First Hall of Fame Most Outstanding Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 10 and PRISCONSUL will be conducting a training-workshop entitled “Course on Occupational Safety and Health in Construction” on 23-27 April 2007 at the Peking House, 4th Floor, Gaisano Mall, Cagayan de Oro City.

The 5-day training course is aimed to ensure continuous improvement in workplace safety and health. This is based on the issuance of DOLE Department Order No. 13, which mandates the provision of a venue for reinforcing OSH rules and standards that are set to eliminate occupational safety and health hazards in the workplace especially in the construction sites.

The 5-day training course will provide participants the needed knowledge and ability on how to ensure workplace safety and health. The highlights of the event will include the following topics:

  • An Introduction to Construction Safety
  • OHS Standards / OHS Legislations
  • Salient Features of Department Order No. 13 for the Construction Industry
  • Department Order 53-03 Drug Free Workplace
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Electrical and Fire Safety
  • COHE/LOTO
  • Heavy Equipment Operation Safety
  • Fall Protection and Ladder Safety
  • Excavation and Scaffold Safety
  • Road Construction Safety
  • Hazard Analysis
  • Accident Investigation
  • Safety Inspection
  • Site Visit / Audit
  • Safety Program and Preparation

One of the common problems in implementing an effective workplace safety and health is the lack of understanding on where to begin. This is one concern that the training-workshop will address. First time to be conducted in the city, the event is open for 35 trainees only. (Oro Chamber) [top]
