2 Kalinga BFP personnel receive ‘Medalya ng Kadakilaan’

TABUK, Kalinga (13 April) -- The province once again gained a nation-wide recognition when two members of the Kalinga Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Unit received two of the three ‘Medalya ng Kadakilaan’ National Awards during the BFP 41st Observance of the Fire Prevention Month held last March 30, 2007 at the BFP National Headquarters.

Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP) San Ubaldo “Sanny” B. Esteban and FO1 Francis B. Alunday, both from the BFP-Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal and Emergency Medical Services and Special Rescue Unit (EMS/SRU) - Kalinga received their medal during the event graced by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Romulo L. Neri.

In an interview with NUP Ubaldo, who is also this year’s nominee for the Dangal ng Bayan Award of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), the award was in recognition of their swift and efficient rescue operation immediately after the vehicular ambush of Dr. Constancio “Chandu” Claver and his family, an incident that later gained national exposure.

Recalling the incident, he related that he and F01 Alunday were the first to respond on the scene. They conducted first aid treatment, after which they brought the couple and their daughter to the Provincial Hospital for proper medical treatment.

Meanwhile, NUP Esteban also informed that this year marks a significant milestone for the Bureau with the birth of the BFP’s Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Section at the National Headquarters, EMS.

“This newly created section aims to provide services to BFP employees by way of scientific procedures to treat disability, disease or injury to achieve and maintain functional rehabilitation and to prevent malfunction or deformity with an end view of responding to the needs of its employees,” he stated.

He informed that the project, under the administration of Dir. Jose Collado, BFP Fire Chief, also plans to also consider including dependents of BFP employees. (ggd/PIA-Kalinga) [top]
