Arroyo sets 12-hour China trip, then back to First Gentleman
Manila (14 April) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has set a 12-hour visit to China as she wants to return to husband First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, who has been confined in a local hospital since Monday after undergoing heart surgery, said Ambassador Marciano Paynor, Jr., chief of presidential protocol.
Paynor said Friday that the President would leave in the morning of April 21 to speak at the Boao Forum in China's Hainan province. After her speaking engagement, she will return to Manila.
In all, Paynor said the President would be away for just about 12 hours.
Arroyo has said that she would consult with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on whether she should push through with the trip that was supposed to have lasted for five days.
Arroyo has been holding office at the presidential suite of the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City to be with the First Gentleman. (PIA) [top]
