Southern Leyte holds first general assembly of SEA-K coop

MAASIN CITY (15 April) -- A multi-purpose cooperative that evolved out of women’s groups and associations organized under the Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran (SEA-K) program of the provincial government through the DSWD office held its first general assembly at the DILG gym, this city Friday, April 13.
The Southern Leyte SEA-K Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SLSKMPC) successfully conducted the activities of the day-long gathering with the theme “Kalig-on sa Cooperatiba, Kalig-on sa Pamilya” (strength of the cooperative, strength of the Family).
Gov. Rosette Lerias, in her inspirational message, acknowledged the capability of housewives as help-mates and partners of their husbands in providing the economic needs of the family.
“We, the women, have learned what is our responsibility, that we are partners with our husbands -- not as errands but in work, in finding a bright future for your families,” Gov. Lerias pointed out, speaking in bisaya.
She added: “I am proud to says that women in Southern Leyte are not afraid to work and do things -- not just those work at home but those intended for our spouses, in which we also contribute to augment the financial coffers of each and every family.”
About twenty women’s groups, where each group was composed of 15 to 25 members, coming from this city and the rest of the province, converged for the day’s activity, it was learned.
The guest speaker, Romy Aguilar, a veteran in cooperative affairs and ventures, encouraged the women to continue what they had begun, while Provincial Social Welfare Officer Romana Kuizon expressed hope for a lasting cooperative organization.
In the Management Report, Eulalia Orit, the Coop Manager, disclosed that even in its infancy the assets of the cooperative for 2006 reached P 1,902,818.75.
The savings deposit totaled P 1,535,691.10, the time deposit, P 103,801.32, and the loan releases as of December 2006 amounted to P 1,733,000.
The Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) is also one of the priority programs of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. (PIA-Southern Leyte ) [top]
