DSWD 13 orients gov't agencies on alternative parental care

by Leah T. Quintana

BUTUAN CITY (17 April) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 13 Director Mercedita Jabagat said the department had briefed national government agency employees on alternative parental care seeing the need to strengthen collaboration among national government agencies.

“Employees of the national government agencies in the region deserve to be informed on alternative parental care since they are our partners in disseminating government programs and services,” Director Jabagat said.

DSWD Caraga has conducted a series of orientations on alternative parental care especially adoption and foster care with prospective adoptive and foster parents. To be able to reach out to more people, the department opted to include orientations of the government employees.

Since its inception in 1995, this is the first time that DSWD Caraga has conducted this kind of advocacy on adoption and foster care.

As of press time, orientations were already conducted in three regional agencies namely, the Philippine National Police (PNP), Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). Other agencies have also booked for their schedule with DSWD.

Following the positive response gained from the national government agencies, DSWD Caraga hopes to encourage more people to be part of this noble undertaking.

The department through this initiative aim to register more foster parents that would adopt children who are abandoned, neglected, orphaned or the children in conflict with the law who have no one or no family to return to after released from rehabilitation center. (DSWD-13/PIA-13) [top]
