Capiz grains retailers renew licenses

by Jemin B. Guillermo

Roxas City (18 April) -- Grains retailers in Capiz have complied with their social responsibility with the government to continue their business.

According to Information Officer Edna Artates of the National Food Authority (NFA) here, more grains retailers in the province have renewed their grains licenses with said office.

She said that while others are renewing their NFA licenses, others also who intend to engage in the grains business, have applied for registration and license.

Artates said that as of April 12, about 428 individuals have applied for NFA licenses. Of said number, 51 are new registrants while the other 377 have renewed their license.

The activity, she said, is in preparation also for the food agency’s distribution program this lean months season.

Accredited grains retailers who have renewed their licenses with NFA already started withdrawing their rice allocation from said office for sale in the various Bigasan ng Bayan, Tindahan Natin and accredited rice outlets in Capiz, she stressed.

As part of the enforcement of the Philippine Grains Standardization Program, 6 NFA licensees were apprehended and penalized for violating said law, Artates said, explaining that this violation includes over pricing and diversion of government rice.

She stressed that the intensive campaign on license application and renewal is part of the government’s social, economic and fiscal reforms. (PIA) [top]
