7 bathing beaches in Bicol pass DENR standards
Legazpi City (18 April) -- Leading bathing beaches in the Bicol Region are within standards and safe for public use as confirmed in the latest monitoring of the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR-EMB) in Bicol.
Water sampling and monitoring conducted by the EMB Bicol regional office found seven bathing beaches in the Bicol region particularly, Bacon and Gubat beaches in Sorsogon; Misibis, Bacacay, Sto. Domingo and Tiwi beaches in Albay; and Pasacao beach in Camarines Sur to conform with DENR standards for fecal coliform and total coliform.
EMB Bicol regional director Gilbert Gonzales the results indicate that surface water in said areas are suitable and safe for bathing, swimming and other recreational activities.
Gonzales said that thru its Beachwatch program, the EMB inspects the seven beach areas, where water quality monitoring is conducted monthly to ensure public health and safety.
