Harbin mayor visits Oro

Cagayan de Oro City (18 April) -- Deputy mayor Wang Li of Harbin City, China today met with City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano as the two leaders solidify their pact as sister cities.

Li, who heads the delegation of Harbin’s businessmen and officials, is on a two-day visit in the city and is set to visit the economic zones of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental namely Alwana Business Park in Cugman and the Phividec Industrial Estate in the nearby town of Tagoloan.

The group will also visit the new city of El Salvador and the town of Opol in the western part of Misamis Oriental to search for possible areas where they can establish their investments.

They will also visit various big establishments of the city and will meet with the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ORO CHAMBER) and the Misamis Oriental Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Trade for possible business tie-up.

Aside from Cagayan de Oro, the Chinese delegates also planned to visit the nearby province of Bukidnon.

Mayor Emano who met with the group in his office today, assured the visitors that they are safe and will enjoy their stay in the city even as he hoped that the sister city relationship between Harbin and Cagayan de Oro will grow stronger for the benefit of the constituents in the two cities.

In September 2004, Mayor Emano led a delegation of Cagayanon businessmen and officials to China and forged a sisterhood pact with the city of Harbin.

Harbin is the capital of Hailongjang province and is one of the six large industrial bases of China where such industries as machinery, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and food processing operate. (Cagayan de Oro City Information Office) [top]
