76 electoral candidates in Region I run unopposed

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (19 April) -- Seventy-six (76) electoral candidates vying for the different local positions in the Ilocos region are running unopposed this May 14 elections. Three (3) of whom are running for congressman, 1 vice-governor, 1 city mayor, 1 city vice-mayor, 19 municipal mayors, 19 municipal vice-mayors and 32 councilors.

Former Ilocos Norte governor Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr. (KBL) of the 2nd district, Marc Cojuangco (NPC) of the 5th district of Pangasinan and Conrado Estrella III (NPC) of the 6th district of Pangasinan are unopposed for the congressional post in their respective areas.

Also, incumbent and re-electionist Windell Chua (KBL) of Ilocos Norte is unopposed for vice-governor.

In the case of Vigan City, no one dare to fight incumbent and re-electionist Mayor Eva Marie S. Medina (LAKAS), while Johnny R. Itahon (LAKAS) is unopposed as vice-mayor of Candon City.

Running for councilors in the towns of Magsingal, Salcedo, San Ildefonso and San Vicente in Ilocos Sur, all are under the LAKAS-CMD party, are also unopposed.

Among the 76 unopposed candidates, 60 are under the LAKAS-CMD party, 7 under NPC, 6 under the KBL and 3 are under the KAMPI.
