Statement of Secretary Ignacio R. Bunye Re: Attack on Journalists
Manila (20 April) -- The attack on the Inquirer and Star journalists in Lucena City is despicable and has no place in a democracy that upholds press freedom. The President has ordered the local law enforcement agencies in Lucena to carry out a swift and thorough investigation.
Re: Ms. Campbell
The President is saddened by the death of Ms. Campbell and the government is extending its full cooperation to the US authorities in investigating the circumstances that led to it. It is unfortunate that a committed and selfless person, who has, based on the work she has done in Sorsogon, obviously grown to love our country, met a tragic end here.
