PGMA welcomes new Laos envoy
Manila (20 April) -- The new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic presented his credentials to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the Rizal Hall in Malacaņang yesterday afternoon.
The President, in rust-colored pant suit, welcomed Ambassador Leuane Sombounkhan in the presence of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo.
The new ambassador came to the Palace with a delegation of six people, including his wife. He replaced former Ambassador to the Philippines Phiane Philakone who was recalled to Vientiane a few months back after completing his assignment in the Philippines since June 2001.
After his meeting with the President, Ambassador Sombounkhan was escorted by protocol officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to the Rizal Park where he laid a wreath at the foot of the Rizal Monument, an act of respect for the national hero which has become a traditional part of credentials presentations by newly appointed foreign ambassadors to the Philippines.
