National Heritage Month grand opening set in Leyte

Tacloban City (25 April) -- Leyteños have reason to be proud because this year, Leyte has been chosen as the site for the National Grand Opening Ceremonies of the National Celebration of the Heritage Month this coming May by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Filipino Heritage Festival, Inc.
Per Proclamation No. 438 dated August 11, 2003 the month of May of every year is declared as National Heritage Month wherein consciousness, respect and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history is being recognized.
Carrying the theme "Linugaringon nga Panlantaw Ha Leyte"", the different activities relative to the grand event is presently being prepared by the Leyte Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Council.
The Festival is being observed to enhance appreciation for cultural heritage events. Likewise, it is aimed to raise consciousness of Filipinos of the existence of the marvelous man-made and natural heritage landmarks.
Relative to the event, the Leyte Heritage Festival Committee prepared various activities scheduled on April 30 to May 2, 2007, which is open to the general public.
On April 30, a Misa Cantada will be celebrated at the Sto. Niño Parish at 7:00 A.M. with Archbishop Msgr. Jose Palma as main celebrant. At 9::00 A.M., there will be an Opening of Religious Icons Exhibit at the CAP Building to include architectural heritage photo, plus food and tuba implements.
Opening of "Pangaon Kita" Food Festival will be at 10:30 A.M. wherein Leyteño dishes and delicacies from various municipalities will be presented. Likewise, there will also be an Abaca Installation Art Exhibit at the UPVTC Campus Grounds at 4:00 P.M., and Opening of Visual Arts Exhibit at the Leyte Park Hotel. At 6:00 P.M., Pagdayaw Leytenhon Heritage Awards Ceremony will take place at the Leyte Provincial Capitol Terrace.
The following day, May 1, six Architectural Heritage sites in Leyte will be showcased. The first heritage destination will be in Tanauan, followed by Dulag, Carigara, Baybay, Albuera, and lastly Hilongos.
Said Architectural Tour will be participated in by architecture students, members of the media, and the United Architects of the Philippines Leyte Chapter.
On the final day of the celebration, a Grand Performing Arts Show will be conducted at the RTR Plaza featuring the Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company, Rah Rah Rousers of Palo, Balinsasayaw Singers, UP’s Balangaw Performing Arts Group, the Odon Sabarre Dance Scholars, plus other noted performers in the province.
