AFP lauds "courageous" candidates

Iloilo City (26 April) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)lauded candidates who are “courageous enough” to resist and/or expose extortion and terroristic activities of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the region during this election campaign period.

Cpt. Lowen Gil C. Marquez, Commanding Officer of the 3rd Civil Relations Group based in Camp Delgado, said this courageous act of many candidates in the region is being appreciated by the AFP, the non-government organizations, even the religious and civic sectors, who pool efforts against extortion and violence during the elections period.

Marquez said they have evidence to show that the CPP/NPA/NDF and their allied movements, have been negotiating some package deals with the candidates, in exchange for permit to campaign/to win in many provinces in the region.

Marquez also said that the excessive demands of the groups prompted many politicians to report to the AFP and the PNP for prompt and appropriate actions.

He called these courageous acts of the politicians as “heroic” and said they should continue being vigilant and cooperative with the AFP and the government in crushing terrorism which is also the root cause of poverty in the countryside. (CRS/PIA) [top]
