DOT, police tandem key to 1st Q tourist influx in Iligan
Iligan City (26 April) -- "We have been closely coordinating with our local police in safeguarding our foreign tourists, and so far we have a zero crime rate," said Agnes Clerigo-Maingat, officer-in-charge of the Iligan Ciy Tourism Office.
Maingat said that there have been no reported cases of foreign tourists being harassed or abused here. In fact, he added, tourist influx from January to March this year has increased by 18.44% as compared to arrivals in the same period last year.
To ensure proper service, the Department of Tourism, Region 10 (DOT-10) recently met with local DOT representatives and other tourism stakeholders to discuss general guidelines in catering to foreign tourists.
Seminars like these and other developments answer President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's call for local authorities to ensure the protection of foreign tourists and workers as well, Maingat concluded. (PIA-Iligan) [top]
