PPCRV pushes for clean and honest elections through Candidates' Forum
Cagayan de Oro City (26 April) -- The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), Iligan Diocesan Council, Iligan City, in coordination with the MSU-IIT and St. Michael's College (SMC), sponsored a 'Candidates Forum' at the St. Michael's College gymnasium on April 25, 2006, 1:30 pm-6:00 pm.
Fr. Albert T. Mendez, chairperson, PPCRV- Iligan, said the forum was a venue for the candidates to express their program of government, and their reasons for seeking public office. It also provided the people with accurate information that would assess their fitness in the public office.
Candidates for May Elections for the positions only of Mayor and Congressman 1st District- Iligan City/ Lanao del Norte were given the privilege to present their platform of government and were asked on issues regarding legislative agenda.
Following the forum was the Covenant Signing for clean, honest, accurate, meaningful and peaceful May 14 Elections. Candidates present for Representative -1st District Iligan City/LN were namely: Vicente Belmonte (GO/UNO), Uriel Borja (Independent), Angelique Dawn Badelles (KAMPI) and Leo Zaragoza (LP), were present.
Meanwhile, all three (3) mayoralty candidates namely Lawrence Cruz (LDP), Franklin Qiujano (LAKAS-CMD) and Alejo Yañez (PMP) were also present.
Monsgr. Jimar Vera Cruz, Vicar General of Diocese of Iligan, represented Bishop Elenito Galido and said voters should choose the best leaders, and remember always that as God's stewards on earth, must promote a safe, clean and wholesome environment and an unequivocal reverence for life.
