Region 8 joins World Day for Safety and Health at Work
Tacloban City (April 27) -- Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 8 Director Forter Puguon informed that Region 8 joins the whole world in celebrating April 28 as the World Day for Safety and Health at Work with the slogan "Safety and Health Workplace: Making Decent Work a Reality."
Director Puguon said that this even is very timely as the country is set to celebrate Labor Day on May 1. He underscored that while the country recognize the contribution of the working men and women in the country's economy, the government should also protect them and endeavor to achieve zero number of work-related deaths, accidents, injuries and diseases by promoting and creating a safety and health culture in the workplace.
The yearly celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment through its Occupational Safety and Health Center, Director Puguon informed through information officer Mr. Virgilio Doroja, Jr.
The event aims to promote, enhance and instill national awareness and appreciation on the importance of occupational safety and health and to illicit the cooperation and support of the workers, employers, professional groups and especially the general public in upgrading the quality of life in the workplace.
Director Puguon emphasized that the Department of Labor and Employment is not only concerned in the training of the worker so that he will be able to land a job. When the worker has found a job, DOLE also sees to it that the working condition including the safety of the worker is protected.
Director Puguon assured the public that the Department of Labor and Employment will continue protecting the interest of the workers and employers and will continue to endeavor for industrial peace which is vital to economic development. (PIA 8) [top]
