DOT-5 to launch GREET program

LEGAZPI CITY (27 April) -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) thru the Philippine Convention and Visitors Corporation (PCVC) will soon launch the Grassroots Entrepreneurs for Eco-Tourism (GREET) program.

This was learned from DoT Bicol regional director Maria O. Ravanilla who said the GREET program is a mass-based special pioneering project the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to extend livelihood opportunities for the development of ecotourism areas throughout the country.

Ravanilla said the program will provide P50,000 to P100,000 blocks worth of grants to aspiring entrepreneurs with business proposals that aim to improve tourism-related services and products in eco-tourism sites in the country.

In partnership to the program, destinations will be promoted all over the world through a special brochure and websites by the Department of Tourism. Selected destinations for the program are the banner eco-tourism sites recommended by the National Eco-tourism Steering Committee.

The GREET Organizing Committee will conduct information dissemination thru the DOT regional offices to call for Grant Applications. The awarding of grants will be in September 2007.

“With GREET program, we aim to create favorable business environment in the economic growth on sustained management of eco-tourism sites,” Danie G. Corpuz, executive director, PCVC and Vice Chairman, GREET Program Committee, said in an advisory.
