Cagayan celebrates Earth Day
Tuguegarao City (April 28) -- The Provincial Gov't of Cagayan observed Earth Day celebration by conducting several activities relative to environmental protection, preservation and conservation.
The Provincial Natural Resources Environment Office(PNREO) in coordination with various environmental organizations celebrated Earth Day through a coastal clean-up in Aparri, Cagayan.
This annual clean-up drive in Aparri is one way to help preserve the marine resources and help maintain the cleanliness of the beach to sustain the area as one of the tourist destinations in the region.
Members of the Cagayan Council for Sierra Madre Biodiversity Corridor, DENR-(PENRO), Prov'l. Committee on Sustainable Development the Provincial Mining and Regulatory Board, PNP, Phil. Maritime, students from CSU and Lyceum Aparri, private environmental organizations, LGU employees of Aparri, brgy. officials and residents of the 3 coastal barangays of Punta, Macanaya and Minanga participated in the said activity.
Meantime, Mario Hipolito of PNREO said the provincial gov't and the Cagayan Council for Sierra Madre Biodiversity Corridor are pushing for the declaration of the Northeastern Cagayan as a Protected Landscape and Seascape to ensure the protection and conservation of the biggest remaining intact forest marine resources in the region.
