Kidapawan congressional candidate killed in accidental firing

Kidapawan City (30 April) -- Second District Cotabato Province Congressional Candidate Atty. Solema Jubilan was killed here at about 7:45 o’clock Saturday night in front of her campaign headquarters.

Regional Office 12 Director PCSupt. Felizardo Serapio Jr. said Atty. Jubilan was killed by a bullet fired accidentally from a super.38 caliber revolver by her police escort POI Zafiro Moreno, a member of the 1st Company, Regional Mobile Group 12, while he was about to board the vehicle.

Initial investigation by the local police said Moreno ’s service firearm went off accidentally hitting the car’s front seat that passed through the back portion of Atty. Jubilan’s body. Jubilan was inside her service vehicle going to a campaign sortie.

The victim was immediately rushed to Kidapawan Doctor’s Hospital for medical treatment but died later. According to sources, POI Moreno was personally requested by Atty. Jubilan to provide security for her scheduled campaign in her district.

In a statement late Saturday night, Serapio said that investigation conducted by local authorities showed that the incident was "no more than an accidental firing." However, he told reporters that the case remains open. (PIA SarGen/RPIO-PRO 12) [top]
