Quality homes for poor Filipinos in the offing
by A. Lumaque
Roxas City (5 June) -- "More poor Filipinos will be provided with affordable socialized housing units that will be their own either through efficient production of housing units for ownership or rental or through sustainable housing finance."
This was revealed by Vice President and Housing Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Chairman Noli de Castro during his visit at the various urban poor relocation sites here last June 1.
The housing czar also took time for a provincial government - based low cost residential lot project briefing at Barangay Lanot before he turned-over a P15-million development loan check to the provincial government.
Capiz Gov. Vicente Bermejo received the amount.
"The effort of Capiz is appreciated," stressed de Castro about the subdivision project due for distribution to target beneficiaries.
The project dubbed Capitol Hills Subdivision coincides with Prersident Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's "Pabahay sa Bawat Pamilyang Pilipino" program.
The government's housing efforts for the next three years will focus on the bottom 40 percent of households because of their inability to get formal housing assistance. If and when necessary, the government will step in to provide subsidies to make housing more affordable. Government however will ensure that these are targeted and transparent, said a HUDCC programs and direction posted in the Council's website. (PIA) [top]
