San Jose, Antique (14 June) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Liga ng mga Barangay in the province have signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the Search for Outstanding Tanods and Gabay Mamayan Action Centers (GMAC), said Rosario Maza, Provincial Director.
Also included in the search are Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards and Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran to give recognition for the outstanding accomplishments and performances of barangay officials in responding to the needs of the people in the community.
The search for Outstanding Barangay Tanods is on going until the end of this month. Nomination forms can be submitted to Municipal Local Government Operations Officers in their respective municipalities. The search will be in two categories, namely individual, and group award. Winners in the Provincial Award will compete at the Regional level.
For GMA Centers the search will start in August 2007. Assessment and field validation of functional centers will be in September while awarding of winners will be towards the end of the year. GMAC is an important institution in the barangay where people can access the services and programs of government through the center managed by Barangay Officials assigned daily as Officer of the Day.
Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards is given to Lupong Tagapamayapa who exerted unparalleled efforts to settle cases brought to the barangay despite the voluntary nature of the work that in one way help decongest the high courts and maintain harmonious relationship in the community. The search kicks off this month and awarding of winners will be done early next year due the fact that DILG national level will conduct review and on-site validation of the finalist.
For Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran otherwise known as Clean and Green program, the evaluation will start July 2007. It will be done in various categories such as provincial level, highly urbanized cities, component cities, 6th to 4th class municipalities, 3rd to 1st class towns, cleanest inland body of water and cleanest public market restroom in cities. Awarding ceremonies will be on December this year.
Regional Director Evelyn A. Trompeta of DILG Western Visayas signed the agreement in behalf of the agency and Hon. Ramona Eder represented the League of Barangay Captains at the Provincial level. Both parties agreed to provide technical and financial support for the success of the search.
"We are soliciting the support of partner agencies and local government units in these endeavors to ensure that institutions in the barangays and volunteer workers are recognize of their exemplary performance. These are essential in a responsive bureaucracy." Maza said. (PIA) [top]
