Tacloban City (June 14) -- The Eastern Visayas ICT Fiesta Expo and the launching of the ICT Human Resource Profiling Project are the highlights in this year's commemoration of June as ICT Month, the Regional Information Technology and e-Commerce Committee (RITECC) announced.

These activities are in keeping with this year's theme, "Speeding up Human Resources' e-Knowledge and Skills."

DTI Director Cynthia Nierras who is the RITECC Chair informed that the Eastern Visayas ICT Fiesta Expo 2007 will be conducted on June 21-22 at the Leyte SMED Center, Tacloban City. This will be participated in by the RITECC member agencies that will showcase their respective on-line services for their clients.

Prior to the ribbon cutting at 9:30 in the morning, a motorcade will be conducted at 8:00 o'clock in the morning, around the major thoroughfares of Tacloban City. The Assembly will be at 7:30 in the morning at the Leyte SMED Center.

Director Nierras also informed that after the formal opening of the exhibit, an Opening Program will be conducted followed by the launching of the Region 8 ICT Human Resource Profiling Project which is part of the RITECC efforts to come up with an inventory of human resources in the Region so that the capability to host ICT companies could be assessed.

ICT Products/Services Presentations which will be made by sponsors and exhibitors, will be valuable opportunities for RITECC members to be updated on the latest development in the ICT sector, specially on improving business productivity and competitiveness through ICT.

Director Nierras called on the members of the RITECC to participate and be counted in the activities as their way of showing their commitment to the development of the ICT sector in this part of the country.

ICT Month Celebration is mandated under Proclamation No. 802 declaring the month of June as the National ICT Month signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on March 11, 2005 as government's recognition of ICT as a major sector for economic growth.

RITECC is an umbrella of the Regional Development Council (RDC) the government, private sectors, and the academe with DTI as Secretariat. (PIA 8) [top]
